Three Sisters Box

A friend gave me this amazing board that had this beautify burl pattern in it. I was saving it for a special project and when I was asked to create a small jewelry box for three Ukrainian sisters, I knew that it would be perfect for them. I was limited with the amount of burl that I had and so I created the boxes by mixing in oak, purple heart and poplar (used for the inside trays). They had this simple chain that had some significance from their childhood and asked if it was possible to incorporate this chain somehow in the design where it would always be visible. So instead of using standard lid stays or stop hinges, I used the chain to create the stays for the lids. One of the sisters has since passed away, but the family has kept the box and now is a treasure for their home in Ukraine.
